First, we learned about different scat. Scat tells you what kind of animal it is. We got charts that showed pictures of scat. Some scat has fur because that means it is a meat eater.
Next, we learned about snakes. It was cool seeing a snake. We saw it on the path. Snakes likes to lay on hot rocks to warm up. Snakes go places where people can't see them. Rattlesnakes are poisonous in many different ways. If a rattlesnake bites you, you could lose your leg. Your leg will turn black.
Then, we learned about beautiful plants and flowers. Wasps lay eggs called galls on leaves. If a bug tries to eat the egg, the baby wasp will eat the bug. Petrified wood is over 200 million years old. Petrified wood is like a rock. Some plants need more water and sun because they have different soil. On the sunny side of the mountain the plants look pale so that they absorb less heat.
Last, we learned about bugs. Centipedes have 100 legs. They don't have a nose they have antenna. Millipedes have 1.000 legs. They like to be under ground. Why? Because they like to be in cool places. We saw a bug that had 6 legs and was sitting on a leaf. We saw a bug that looked like spider but the back looked like a bee. The bug's butt was half gone. We thought it was going to the forest but it went under a leaf. It looked like a termite and wasp combined.
Our field trip to Red Butte Gardens was educational and fun! We can't wait to go back and see more cool things.
